Four decades of experience advising companies, nonprofit organizations, law firms, and senior executives on matters of unjust dismissal, discrimination, and other workplace issues, with particular emphasis on the defense of EEO and contract claims; negotiating and resolving controversies under executive employment agreements; dealing with claims involving sexual harassment; training executives and managers; and counseling organizations through challenging workforce transitions, from reductions-in-force to executive-level departures and reorganizations.
Handled several leading employment cases, including the first wrongful discharge case in Washington, DC.
Argued successfully before the US Supreme Court, authored numerous briefs in that tribunal, and served as counsel to the defendant in Harris v. Forklift Systems, the US Supreme Court's first ruling on environmental sexual harassment.
Engaged by law firms and corporate counsel to conduct sensitive internal investigations of harassment, discrimination and whistleblower claims against CEOs and other senior executives.
Author of numerous articles and treatise chapters, including the Employment Law chapter in The Essential HR Handbook, Armstrong & Mitchell (2019) and "US Antidiscrimination Law" in BNA's Third Edition of International Labor and Employment Laws (2009).
